Book of the Month: Focus

This month I read Focus: Elevating the Essentials to Radically Improve Student Learning by Mike Schmoker. Having never (to my knowledge) read his work before I found the book interesting. Schmoker calls for educators to focus on sharing content worth knowing over the overwhelming reform efforts. My cooperating teacher informed me that, having read other Schmoker books, this is a new tact for the author. Personally I hope people read the book and take it in balance with every thing else out there. While I agree education reform has become distracted by edutainments rather than deeper learning I also see value in research into these new practices.
