The First Question with Pooky Amsterdam (I was a guest!)

This past Sunday I was a guest on “The 1st Question with Pooky Amsterdam.” This was my first televised appearance on Treet TV besides as a moderator during the Virtual Worlds: Best Practices in Education Conference. Despite my initial nerves, Pooky, Hydra, and their staff made the experience enjoyable and extremely interesting. In addition, as a participant I was able to gain a better understanding of the show format which I plan to implement as a student review activity in my classroom.

For those that have never watched the show before, “The 1st Question” is based in Second Life where it is recorded live before an audience of people who attend as their avatar. Several friends were in the audience including two of my coconspirators, Kavon Zenovka and Abacus Capalini. Many other stars of the Second Life education world were also in attendance such as Pamala – of the “Roadside Philosophers.” My co-participants were Ham Rambler and madddyyy Schnook, both highly regarded members of the community and virtual world celebrities.

The show itself is a fast-paced science quiz show. They take recent science and learning news and quiz the participants in a variety of ways including true or false, buzzed in answers, as well as a competition to see who has the better made up word. My word was ‘telepathetic’ or to ‘unerring be drawn to silliness.’ The other participants were impressive but I still came in second despite choosing my butterfly avatar. Go ahead and watch the show below:
